Aftermarket Camshafts - "Which one do I need?"

One thing is for certain: Chances are, if you know anyone with a Chevrolet that makes any decent power it has an aftermarket camshaft. Cams make the notorious chopping sound that muscle car guys adore, but are an integral piece of how the pushrod LS engine works.

"What does a camshaft do, and why do I need one?"

In the LS engines, the camshaft presses on a pushrod, transferring motion to the top of the engine, where a rocker opens the intake and exhaust valves. Upgrading to a higher lift camshaft helps the engine breathe in and expel more air, leading to more horsepower/torque and changes in your powerband. The BTR Stage 2 truck cam kit is the best selling kit on my website. It allows you to use your stock engine and trans without any modification whatsoever or aftermarket stall converters. You are also able to safely reuse your factory pushrods with this cam if you so choose. If you're weary because of high miles or an engine with unknown history of maintenance, you can use BTR's stock replacement pushrods.

(A DOD/AFM Delete kit must be used in 5.3 and 6.0 trucks from 2007 and forward.)

 

If you are wanting to run a bigger cam than a stage 2 and are willing to swap to an aftermarket stall converter, My recommendation is a BTR Stage 3 V2 Cam kit. It includes the same items as the stage 2 kit and is the same price, just with the more aggressive BTR Stage 3 V2 Truck cam.
